IT Technician

Missoula, MT

Location: Missoula, MT (Hybrid – minimum 1 day/week on-site)

Compensation: $25/hour

Hours: 10–20 hours per week

We are seeking a reliable, hands-on Part-Time IT Technician to support the daily technical needs of our growing biotech organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving a wide range of IT hardware, software, and network challenges and wants flexibility in scheduling while still providing regular on-site support.

The IT Technician will be responsible for maintaining our workstation fleet (primarily Dell laptops and desktops, with occasional Linux systems), managing our network and server infrastructure, and helping build internal processes—including a ticketing system—to streamline IT support for the team.

Key Responsibilities

Workstation & Device Management

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain company laptops, desktops, and peripheral hardware
  • Support Windows and occasional Linux workstations
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades
  • Manage device inventory, warranties, and lifecycle tracking

Network & Systems Administration

  • Maintain and monitor our network, including access points, switches, and security appliances
  • Assist with VPN setup, troubleshooting, and user access management
  • Support server systems and NAS storage solutions, including routine maintenance and backup oversight

Microsoft & SaaS Administration

  • Administer Microsoft 365 accounts, groups, licenses, and security settings
  • Provide support for company productivity and communication platforms
  • Assist with user onboarding/offboarding from a systems perspective

IT Support & Process Development

  • Serve as the primary contact for all IT hardware and software support needs
  • Develop and implement an internal IT ticketing system to track and resolve issues
  • Create documentation, SOPs, and best practices for recurring IT workflows
  • Recommend improvements to network, hardware, and security infrastructure

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience supporting Windows-based systems; familiarity with Linux
  • Working knowledge of networking rules and equipment
  • Basic understanding of server and storage configuration/maintenance
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to prioritize tasks independently
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration
  • Experience designing or implementing an IT ticketing/helpdesk system
  • Background in small-company or startup IT environments
  • Knowledge of security best practices and user-access management

Schedule & Work Expectations

  • 10–20 hours per week, flexible scheduling
  • Minimum one on-site day in Missoula per week for hardware and network support
  • Additional hours may be remote depending on task requirements
  • This is an hourly, part-time position
