NGS Associate Scientist or Scientist ($70k+ DOE)

Job Description 

FYR Diagnostics is seeking a Scientist with expertise in next generation sequencing (NGS) to participate in research related to assay development in our R&D lab. The Scientist will be using molecular biology techniques and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies to perform experiments as part of a diverse team of researchers, scientists, technicians, and bioinformaticians. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the planning, supervision, execution, analysis, and troubleshooting of NGS pipelines to support multiomic workflow development  
  • Generate and advance creative new ideas to improve existing workflows, expand capabilities, and create new technologies  
  • Record, process, and analyze experimental data in a LIS/ELN system  
  • Supervise the development of QC/QA systems for assays, procedures, workflows or instrumentation   
  • Supervise the development of SOPs for standardized lab procedures  
  • Supervise, mentor and train technicians to accomplish day-to-day experimental goals and prioritization   
  • Become an expert on use, maintenance, and new developments related to critical instruments in the laboratory  
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians, scientists, and data scientists to develop creative ideas and troubleshoot experiments  
  • Compile summaries and reports for presentation to internal or external stakeholders  

 

Required Qualifications 

Either 1. 

  • BA/BS in the biological sciences, such as molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc., and  
  • 6+ years of relevant wet-lab experience using NGS technologies

Or, 2.  

  • MA/MS in the biological sciences, such as molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc., and  
  • 4+ years of relevant wet-lab experience using NGS technologies

Or, 3.  

  • PhD in the biological sciences, such as molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc., and  
  • 2+ years of relevant wet-lab experience using NGS technologies

 

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates must have all of the following:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies (RNAseq, DNAseq, etc) 
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in molecular biology and genetics/genomics including: 
    • DNA/RNA isolation and manipulation 
    • qPCR 
    • NGS library prep, QC, Sequencing  
    • Data analysis and interpretation  
  • Demonstrated superior capabilities in experiment planning, execution, troubleshooting, and ability to design and optimize novel assays  
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills   

   

Nice-to-have:  

  • Experience handling and processing biological specimens (e.g., blood, plasma, serum, human tissue)  
  • Experience working with extracellular vesicles and cell-free nucleic acids  
  • Experience using automated liquid handling systems  
  • Experience working with LIMS/ELN systems, such as Benchling  
  • Experience supervising other lab members on the execution of day-to-day experiments  
  • Experience with Nextflow or other similar pipelines  
  • Experience managing other laboratory personnel
